What are the pros and cons of getting your hair braided?

I wanna get my hair braided and keep it braided for like a year or 2 to let it grow out, what are the pros and cons of getting your hair braided? What are the pros and cons of getting your hair braided?
umm...i really wouldnt know that....maybe go to a beatuy place and ask them...go luck thouWhat are the pros and cons of getting your hair braided?
If braided to tight you will have hair loss especially around the hairline and temple area.

Braids should only stay in for 2-3 months at a time and re did.

Braids can cause the hair to grow because of less combing.
Just get it deep conditioned and trimmed every 2 weeks so it stays healthy and it should grow really fast.
    pros- your hair grows faster

cons-when you wash your hair it will fall out like mad,so don't be surprised.
cons- if not done correctly, your hair will break. your hair will be dirty. you can lose a lot of hair.

pros- your hair will grow faster.you won't have to worry about it in the morning. :]
    pros

    1) you don't have to do ur hair everyday

    2) it grows fast, since ur not styling it constantly

    3) low maintenance

    cons

    1) if they are put in too tight, it will cause the hair to break

    WATCH THE HAIRLINE ESPECIALLY

    2) takes a long time to put them in
cons - if braided properly and only kept in for at the most 3-4 months at a time, given a week break before rebraided, there are no cons

pros - less manipulation is done to the hair which means less breakage, you don't have to worry about hairstyles

How long does a person have to leave their hair braided before it starts to dread?

If you have any other advice it would be most appreciated. How long does a person have to leave their hair braided before it starts to dread?
it depends on your hair type and texture. And of cousre how strong it can uphold the braids. But the maximum time for individuals is 3 months, Cornrows with hair added up to 6 weeks and weaves up to 2 months. now when you hear tat a person has had it in longer. it isbecause they had a ';touch up';. Rebraiding or redoing what is lose or old looking. This is what maintains the styles and keeps you hair up without damaging it. If it didn not get a touch up. thats wher you would get dreads. It the mean while of touch up. Keep your styles up with the necessary haicar treatment for that particular style. (i.e. oil sheen, braids spray etc.)How long does a person have to leave their hair braided before it starts to dread?

I have been wanting to get my hair braided. How should I go about finding a good hair braider?

I don't know anyone who could do it. And I don't see many girls to ask them where that get their's done. Help please.I have been wanting to get my hair braided. How should I go about finding a good hair braider?
My personal selection for any ';new'; activities has been at a local beauty school; they are ';up'; on the latest in beauty care without the extreme rates that an experienced salon associate would charge. If you truly hate your new look, the teacher will try to fix it no charge.

Good luck!I have been wanting to get my hair braided. How should I go about finding a good hair braider?
    Inquire at the hair salon.

Does braiding make your hair grow longer, true or false and why?

True. Its not the braids that are making your hair grow longer its the lack of attention you have to give your hair that makes the difference. You brush and comb it less. And you put less product in it which helps it grow faster.Does braiding make your hair grow longer, true or false and why?
False, because hair growth is determined genetically and hormonally. It occurs beneath the surface so no amount of trimming, braiding, shampooing, .... will do anything about it. It does sometime grow faster during adolescence and pregnancy because the hormones are stronger then. Hair will seem to grow faster on straight hair than curly because it goes straight down and not horizontally. It will also appear to grow faster on short people than tall because it takes less time to grow to the chin, neck, back, in comparison.

Really tight braids left in for long periods of time may even cause traction alopecia, which is hair loss in a specific area because the hair follicle (part under the skin where it grows) is being pulled so hair it is damaged.

However, big braids will protect your hair from damage so you will have to trim split ends less, resulting in seemingly faster growing hair.

Can corn rows(?) or African type braiding be done on a white person? How long does your hair have to be to do?

Can hair extensions be used if your own hair is not long enough? How do you find a shop that does braids exclusively or at least to include braiding? Can corn rows(?) or African type braiding be done on a white person? How long does your hair have to be to do?
yes it can be done but white people's scalp is much more sensitive than blacks. So ur head is gonna be really sore. just walk into a hair braiding salon and tell them what u want and they'll take care of you.Can corn rows(?) or African type braiding be done on a white person? How long does your hair have to be to do?
Cornrows can be done on white people hair, it is more difficult, especially if your hair is really straight or thick. It depends on who is braiding your hair for how long it needs to be. Someone who is more proficient in braiding will do better than someone that merely knows how to do it. Look in the yellow pages. Some beauty shops put ads in there listing the services offered. You can have extensions braided in, but your hair has to be a little longer to have something to hold it on your head. It hurts to have cornrows, imagine all your hair being pulled tight for days. Plus it gets itchy, is hard to clean your scalp.
I'm pretty sure they can. Ask around, people will probably know where there is somebody who can do your braids for you. Your hair doesn't have to be that long. I have seen people who their hair was about chin length have it.
My wife's done it a few times. Typically shoulder length.
Google ';Bo Derek in 10'; to see what corn rows look like on a white woman

I want to get my African American hair braided for summer?

I want to get my hair braided for the summer but I'm not sure where to go. Someone suggested a beauty college. Would this be a better choice than a regular salon?I want to get my African American hair braided for summer?
Well going to a beauty college will definately get you a great deal! Although you might be taking the risk of it not being done correctly. If you want to be 100% safe go to a beauty salon. If you want a less expensive job go to the beauty college.I want to get my African American hair braided for summer?
Girl, I'm sure you know someone from the hood that can hook you up. Those girls are the best! I'm serious. Ask around and find someone in your area that do braids at their house. They do just as good as us professionals.
Get one of you relatives to do it, my mama be wreckin' when she braid my hair, it be lookin' so cute! Sometimes my cousin will do it too, but not as good as my mama.
no.. wont you go to the african beauty salon in your area every area has one look it up in the yellow pages under african hair braiding.
I'm thinking that you probably know someone who can braid your hair for less than both of those businesses. Everybody knows somebody that can hook them up.
u can go to a beauty school just mak sure u ask to see there work, but if your not worreid about how much it will cost i say go to a braid shop.

How do I take care of the hair braided underneath the weave?

I'm getting weave done for the second time, and the first time I got one, I was able to keep the weave nice, but when I took it out and took my braids out my hair was very matted. Please help!!!!

Please only answer if you have actual advice, don't answer just to get more points. How do I take care of the hair braided underneath the weave?
The hair that is braided is going to get matted regardless if you leave them in too long. And because you're not manipulating or detangling your hair, you should expect some matting.

You can take steps to keep the hair strong and conditioned under the weave.

When you wash the hair try not to rub too hard and make sure you dry the braids completely because they will swell and get bacteria prone.

Use a light oil on your scalp and try to get one with an applicator tip. I like Doo Gro growth oils, Organic Root Stimulator Dry Scalp Relief or anti-itch scalp oil. If your hair is chemical free you can use organic root stimulator shea butter. It will keep your hair and scalp soft while braided. You have to gently massage the oil into your scalp so you don't loosen the braids.

Try not to rub your scalp with scalp with hair grease or anything like that because it will cause your braids to loosen which will lead to more matting.

Use a wig brush, one with coated bristles. Brush the weave away from your scalp so you're not catching the braids. This will keep the brush from pulling your hair out of the braids and it will keep your braids neater. How do I take care of the hair braided underneath the weave?
I've had a weave done and also the extensions where they fuse them to little individual bunches of your hair with keratin. Either way you end up with knots because your hair is growing over time underneath the braid and it's hard to comb the part between your scalp and the weave part. And with the individual bunches fused with keratin it was the same problem. I used a conditioner for my skalp to make the knots more difficult to form.
As long as your hair is sewn in tight and correctly, then you should be able to wash and condition as needed. And be sure that the shampoo %26amp; conditioner gets to the braids and roots so that you can take care of your natural hair as well as the false hair. Hope this helps!

You should condition your hair really well when you wash it. Even the braids underneath. Then apply a leave in conditioner on your braids and some oil sheen from time to time.

Hmm...extension? ConrowsWhat type of extension hair braid is this called?
    cornrows?
The only thing i can think of that involves a c is cornrows (Corn-Rows)

This isn't an extension though, it can be done with your real hair.

All it is, is a french braid using a fraction of the hair. Most cornrows are rolled from the front of the scalp (from you forehead) to the back (neck.)
There is an EXTENSION called ';Interlock'; that is like individual braids (Don't know of one that starts with a C that is an extension). The hair is only braided at the root and the rest is left unbraided for a natural effect that is virtually undetectable.
u might be talking about cornrows

gel the 3 strands your using while they are wet. then and a VERY small amout of gel when finishedDoes anyone have any tips on pigtail braiding hair??
Well, first off leave the side-bangs out.

    1. Wet your hair, even do this after a shower.

    2. Put a small dab of anti-frizz cream and comb it through-out your hair.

    3. Now, while your hair is still wet, braid it. Seperate it into the two different sections you are going to braid. Then braid.

    4. After you braid it run some gel over it %26amp; let dry naturally.
Do not dry your hair after getting out of the shower.

Place any type of hair gel or hair anti-frizz in your hair.

    Then braid your pig tails.

    Tie the pig tails off.

I had to do that for years.

(After it dries, you can also had extra hold with hair spray)optional

Is it legal to have a volunteer hair braiding and weaving service with a flexible donation list w/o a license?

Depends on where you live. As long as you're doing inside your home or under the table at a salon, you won't get in trouble. I would make sure your clients are cool though, otherwise, If something goes wrong, you're gonna get slapped with a lawsuit.

Braiding hair at night for waves in the morning...?

well make sure you braid them tight and spray them down with hair spray.

the next morning wet it down a little and add like some mossue, serum, or hair spray

DOn't braid it too tight, and make sure theres some hair left under the hair tie so that it doesn't stick at a weird angle. i use this, and it looks great.
Buy a straightener for when it doesn't come out right... and a 1-2 inch curling iron to fix it afterwords =]
use flexiable hair spay and four braids instead of 2

    African hair braider here! Say: ';oh these? They are the latest craze- I plan on indulging myself with other braid styles, different hair textures, curly, wavy, long, short....I think it's exciting! I know it's very expensive to get these done, but I know I deserve it.';

Or something to that effect. But never say flat out no, it's not my hair. Never allow anybody to make you feel bad for something that is a utility to you, that is beautiful, and above all, makes YOU feel good about yourself. Remember to always tune into the woman that is you- some days you may have to delve deeper, but this is the right time to let your 'woman' out, and you don't even have to get upset with them! Have fun with it- It works.

    Enjoy!

Does braiding your hair really help it grow faster?

nothing really helps you hair grow faster, but braiding it, for example before bed, instead of putting it in a ponytail causes less breakage, which makes hair healthier and strongerDoes braiding your hair really help it grow faster?
yes . the interlocks really grow your hair the secret is to leave it up at least 2months.Does braiding your hair really help it grow faster?
I think so and you have to make sure that you keep it oiled and not too dry. They even say dirty hir makes yoru hair grow but i dont think so. I believe braids make your hair growpretty quickly.
Absolutely not! Nothing is going to help your hair grow faster but massaging the scalp and applying heat to the scalp. Cutting it won't help either... sorry, it's a natural thing that you really have no control over.
The rumor is that braiding your hair makes it grow faster and thats wat i thought. But it only breaks your hair. The trick is to just keep putting vaseline on it. And remember, dont wash, comb, perm, and iron it too much.
I don't think it will help it grow faster but it does grow healthier because you aren't combing it everyday and you are not shedding as much hair as a result of not combing it.
I have long hair. I always braid it at night before I sleep and before working out. Also, if I am out in the wind, sun, ocean I always keep it braided. I think that a braid keeps it neat and without tangles. Also, I brush it less because it is always in a braid. So, yes braids can help you grow your hair becuase it is kept neat and without knots, but it will not help your hair grow faster.

Braids are a very good way to keep your hair healthy!
    dont know.. but probably not
No. your hair grows 1 - 1/2 inches a month but they say keep it tied up loose tho to help hair lose..

Sorry not much help but hairdressers told me oh and try not colour ur hair or use hot irons to ur hair u will kill your hair faster and cause lots of diffrent lenth of split brittle ends.
even better, go with a wig! My hair grew 6'; in 11 months because I kept it washed, conditioned, wrapped and relaxed under the wig.
no it does not. But it does help you while away the time it takes for it to grow.
    %26lt;3
yes cornrows of any kind and not too tight and it grows even faster with adding of hair grease such as ( doogro) or ginseng wonder 8 oil in a yellow bottle
yes, I suggest you give yourself a deep condition treatment whenever you wash your hair. Then, after you get it braided, tie it down with a silk scarf, this will allow the braids to look fresh and last longer. Also, invest in some good oil sheen for braids. Your hair will definitely grow faster and will be much healthier too!

i only braid it when i want the wavy natural look and in the morning i just put on some hair spray and maybe run my hands through it with some holding paste (depending on how well the waves turned out)

but if you want the wet crinkle look i suggest you wet your hair and apply moose and hair spray or gel...then scrunch it with your hands and blow dry it witha diffuser...it turnes out pretty good that way but only if you have long hair because if its short it will make it too poofy if you dont practice first.

GOOD LUCK!!!!I want to wear my hair in a wet and wavy style (crinkled) i'm braiding my hair so what can I use?
use a crimping iron then put it in rollers so it truely looks crinkly

  • Does braiding your hair over night give a natural looking curl/wave?

Does it work when its wet?

How many should I do to get a wave/curl?

I really wanna curl my hair for school..Does braiding your hair over night give a natural looking curl/wave?
Curls from braids always looked crimped, in my opinion. If you're looking for a quick and easy way to achieve super bouncy cute curls, may I recommend paper bag curls?

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WoZ2QGq0n鈥?/a>

Its super fun and easy. The tutorial explains everything. Cheers!Does braiding your hair over night give a natural looking curl/wave?
yeh it makes it beautifully wavy, but you can tell its not natural

best way to do it i find is to put your hair into 3 buns, not messy buns but the ones where you twist the hair until it sort of loops round lol, yeah then when you take them out you have lovely natural looking curls, you might have to go over them with the hairdryer in the morning though as in the bun if your hair is thick it might not dry =)
The tighter the braids, the tighter the wave. When you get out of the shower, dry hair 'til damn, apply a spray-in conditioner and braid your hair. You can choose two braids or multiples. I suggest multiple braids to get the best results. Be sure to braid tightly. (As tight as you can withstand, it will become somewhat lose while sleeping.) You can even twist them. Like Brian Welch from Korn.

    http://i278.photobucket.com/albums/kk97/鈥?/a>

In the morning, get ready as usual. Undo your braids (or twists) and finger-comb through. You should have medium to larger waves.

    Good luck!

Does braiding your hair really help it to grow out?

no it dosnt, my grandma used to make me always wear braids, cuz she thought it would help, it dosnt, it's just an old tale, but if u want your hair to grow, i recommend walmart.

in the pill department they have nail and hair pills. there safe though, because it's just extra vitamins. so try it. make sure it says hair and nails though. and if ur young, there still safe, im 15 and i take them, and my nails and hair are so long.

so i recommend walmart pils..actually....there called HAIR, SKIN, AND NAILS, hope it helps!Does braiding your hair really help it to grow out?
yeaDoes braiding your hair really help it to grow out?
To be honest with you, I have never heard of this myth, but I really don't think that braiding it makes it grow any faster. You hair isn't smart enough to know ';oh, I'm braided, grow, grow, GROW!';, lol. I'm pretty sure your hair will grow just as fast when braided verus left natural.

LOL, if it did work, I wonder if your hair would get shorter if you put it in a ponytail =P
omg idk but i heard it doesnt help =[
no it doesn't! i asked my hair stylist and sadly enough it doesn't help at all...

however if you're one of those people who wears their hair up in a bun a lot then it does help to put it in braids every so often just because it's something different. it's never good to wear the same style too much unless it's just worn down naturaly.
nope, if anything it will cause more breakage.

wear it down more and try to cut out a lot of heat styling, also dont wear it up to bed (that also causes breakage)
No. Srry but i've tried and no success
It does help if done right. but the best way is to do it with no weave %26amp; microbraids brake your hair.
I've never heard of that...I doubt it. =]
yes but if you braid your hair to tight than it will start falling got...hope that i help and good luck^^

Where did hair braiding and cornrows originate from? and what country?

I think people have been braiding their hair as long as they have had hair. The Myceneans, Minoans, Greeks and Romans all had eleborate braiding done to their hair. In many parts of the world, braiding of the hair is still done for beautification purposes. The Masaai men in Kenya dye their hair red with ochre and braid it as a sign of masculinity while the women shave their heads.Where did hair braiding and cornrows originate from? and what country?

How do I curl my hair without using a curling iron, rollers, perm, and braiding it??!!?

I have very straight hair like chinese girls do its very silky, striaght, and smoothe. I was wondering if there are any mousses, gels, or shampoos that anyone recomends that WORK. Thank youHow do I curl my hair without using a curling iron, rollers, perm, and braiding it??!!?
I use Garnier Fructis Curl Shaping Gel, it comes in a spray bottle and isn't sticky like hair spray. I like it quiet well, just spray in damp hair and go!How do I curl my hair without using a curling iron, rollers, perm, and braiding it??!!?
Sorry, if it is naturally straight, shampoos and mousse won't keep it curly for very long.
Okay, I have hair just like yours. What I do is this...

towel dry your hair so it is still wet, but not soaking, and not too dry. Then you comb small strands of hair and twist them around in little buns then clip them to your head. Sleep with them in and when you wake up don't brush it. Just shake it.
If your hair is naturally very straight, even the options you've mentioned won't hold.
wet ur hair and get a round brush and a blow dryer and brush ur hair with the round brush whilr blow dryin and it acts like a curliing iron
you need to set your hair while it's wet with a setting lotion or mousse and part your hair in sections all over and twist it, if you have a dryer use it to dry your hair and then that will give you a nice natural wave.. a volumizing mousse will work best then take the hair loose and do not comb or brush just shake it and go
There are lots of curl activators that come in sprays, shampoos, and such. Just go to the store, pick one out, try it and see if it works and if you like it.
if you want to go for the kind of scrunchy-curled look, any kind of hair gel with a moderate to heavy hold will work. just distribute a good amount of it evenly throughout your hair, and then kind of squeeze the ends with your hands (aka scrunch). otherwise, there's not really any other way to get curly hair without using heat or braiding it.
Sorry, but the shape of your hair is what makes it straight, curly or anywhere in between...therefore there is nothing you can do that will change the composition of your hair and you've pretty much named every way to get it curly.

I would play around with different types of curlers before school starts...that way you're not burning out your hair and it's relatively cheap, so if you want to change the size of the curl it won't cost you too much...use a mousse or gel that sets hair...
Wash and Curl? i don't know if it works, but...
Try going to the salon and getting a wave, it is like a perm but much more gentle on your hair. It makes looser waves, adds volume and if you do use a curling iron the curls stay a lot longer. They usually cost about 70 dollars.
First off, you just eliminated all the options to get curly hair. Secondly, OMG!!! Why would you want to give up silky, straight, smoothe hair?? I would LOVE to have your hair. My hair is frizzy, poofy, curly, and dry!!! But, I'm pretty sure there are a lot of shampoos that make hair curly. I've seen them just cant remember the name.
    You can try this

Test this before you want the curls

wash your hair and dry it till it's barely damp. Put a setting lotion in your hair around 7pm

Use the bendable rods and wrap your hair around them. twist them to hold. Use small sections and having a friend to help is even better.

Wrap your head up with a scarf and sleep on them. When you wake up see if your hair had dried all the way. If it hasn't keep them in, till your hair had dried.

Undo one rod at a time slowly undoing your hair.

Fluff with your fingers and enjoy your curls
A girl I once knew would wrap her hair around little pieces of cloth (like a ripped up shirt) and tie them at the top of her head. If your hair is naturally that straight there is no mouse or gel that will magically curl your hair for you. Next time you get your hair cut I would ask the stylist, they usually know the latest tips and tricks for getting your hair to do what you want it to do. Also - sometimes using a 1/2'; straightener and curling your hair with that works because they tend to be hotter than a curling iron - if you have a friend with one it's worth a try.
Sorry, you are out of luck. Try curlers for a natural look that won't make your hair unhealthy.
there are some shampoos that claim to curl your hair, but i have never tried any of them. good luck/have fun!
There are curling shampoos you can use
wash your hair, don`t dry it and put it in a bun. then take it off when its all dried
Pin curls. Put some product in your hair and while it's still wet, wrap strands of hair around your finger and fasten with a bobby pin flat to your head. Do this to all the sections of your hair. Blow dry or sleep over night like that. Works for me. Trick is to wrap the hair right. It's like getting a perm for a day... you curl it wrong and you got some funky hair all day. Good luck.
well i wanted to do the same thing and Hask Curly Burly curl enhancing shampoo ,conditioner, and spray gel works really well as long as you follow the instructions

    hope it helps
the shampoos dont work nothing will except a perm
    use a straightener
    Scrunch it.
try toweldrying it like crazy and ten take ur finger and twirl wet hair around it keep it like that and it should dry. watch tv or somethin
wow i am so cuter than you poeple

  • African Hair Braiding Senior Project?

I have one problem with this....WHAT CAN I DO MY RESEARCH Paper ON? I can't have a topic that is too broad(The history of African Hair Braiding) or so narrow that i can't find 10 pages worth of information on. Can you all please give me some ideas?African Hair Braiding Senior Project?
you can write about the benefits of african american braiding

-gives the hair rest to promote growth, since some african american textures are difficult to grow while they are constantly being manipulated

-helps with self acceptance, people in some african cultures find braids to be attractive, and some girls do wear them because they find themselves more attractive

-expresses creativity amongst the african american community, i've seen girls with so many colors , and beautiful styles I'm like whoooah,

Hopefully that gave you some ideas.

Try nice human hair wigs if you do not want to damage your hair. I ahave the same problem and I bought a human hair wig that looks so natural. wigsalon.com
I know there are ways to glue them but I think all ';weaving'; included some sort of braid.
what other ways could there be? you have to get it to stick to your head somehow

Is hair braiding mostly apart of Black culture?

I ask because I only know black people who can braid, like any type of hair style. Then I met few Asians who could. I know not one White or Hispanic person who can braid. Is hair braiding mostly apart of Black culture?
yeah, it's a proven fact braiding came from africa of course.

White people don't need braids of course, because their hair is stick straight.

Black people prefer braids to give their hair a rest or to put it in manageability. i had my hair braided alot of times.

I've been noticing that braids are very underrated in the black community now.

But Perms, relaxers and stuff are overrated in the black culture.

Look at Beyonce, her hair was in blonde braids before, now she has perms/relaxers straight hair.Is hair braiding mostly apart of Black culture?
If you mean having many braids i guess so. There really is no black culture since black people live in all parts of the world. I see other cultures have two braids (pigtails) but I usually see black people and hispanics a ka-jillion braids. My mother used to braid my hair but it takes forever.
Well braiding is a part of many cultures but cornrows (a form of braiding) is a traditional style of hair grooming of African origin.

It was a common way of styling hair in populations from sub-Saharan Africa and Ancient East Africa.
braiding isnt just black culture mexican women usually have their hair braided

if your talking about corn rolls then yes it is mostly of black culture
No, it is mostly a practice of people of color. Mostly people that everybody above named.
    blacks and asians/pacific islanders.

But in mexico they braid hair too.
You can get your hair braided in Mexico

    I did
Yep. If you want your hair braided go to an African or a Caribbean salon they are better and faster braiders but they charge you more.
it started in Africa. Native Americans braid their hair too
Yes, braids are mostly apart of Black culture. Other races look weird with braids in, TBH.
Yes, braiding is apart of black culture and anyone who has dark skin.
    No.. Samoans do it too
no- they've been doing that in Mexico for a long time now

Does french braiding damp hair make it wavy?

If I use a line of hair products mean to enhance my curls, and french braid it while it's still damp, will it work?Does french braiding damp hair make it wavy?
sure it will... put some gel in your hair when it's wet, put a french braid it in, and sleep on it... by the next day it should be dry, take out the braid and you'll have a great wave it in...Does french braiding damp hair make it wavy?
yes you should put hairspray on it as well that way when you take it out it will hold better.
you don't even have to use products..your hair will dry with a wave...sleeping on it will help TONS!
Yes,let it dry completely before you undo your braid
what i do to make my hair more wavy (i have naturally curly hair, i'm half black half white) is to put some hair lotion in it when it's still damp, don't brush!!!! at night, french braiding it will get it wavy. it will also work if it's damp. just add some sort of product in it, depending on what type of hair you have
    Yeah, really well.
it will make it wavey but not in the way you want it to be

They make those scrunchy rollers, not sure of the exact name of them, but that is what you use. The are bendable and you wrap your hair around them and bend them to hold
Yeah---if you're hair's thin, it'll look more like you crimped it though.
Yes, if you let it dry. But if your hair is thick, it is unlikely to dry completely and therefore, it could ';somewhat mildew'; and you will know this by the smell of your hair. Washing your hair takes the smell and the mildew germs out. With thick hair, you might want to let it half-dry and use a bit of mousse before braiding it.

If you're lucky like me and you have thin hair, go for it!
Try. I'm assuming your hair is super straight, because normally hair gets wavy when braided (French or not French) even without moisture. It will take long to dry, though, but it should definitely get the result you are aiming for. Buy hairspray that seals out moisture (FRIZZ EASE MOISTURE BARRIER) for afterwards.... when your hair is dry and wavy- then you spray it with that spray- for it to stay longer that way.
yes, but you will still have some 'straight' spots!
Yes, it makes it almost crinkled, just throw in some gel, do it before you go to bed, and take it out the next day. DO NOT brush it, it will cause it to go frizzy. Just throw in some hairspray and off you go!
If you braid your hair while it's damp, and you use a product, it might wave. I can tell you that mine doesn't, but I have very thick hair, so my hair just is weighed down and doesn't wave anyways. I find it more productive if you use a product, and if you do braid it while damp, blow dry it while it is still in the braid and wait until it is totally dry before taking it out.
all you have to do is braid it when its wet and then let it dry...take it out and voila waves!

follow these tips and you will find a great results

    # mix castor oil + almond oil

and apply it for four hours once a week

    # eat healthy

    # use a good shampoo and conditioner

I suggest dove or herbal essence

    both are great

have a problem with my hairline due to previous hair braiding, it's weak and thin. what can i use?
Try Dr. Miracle's temple and nape balm, Doo Gro, or out a little castor oil in a jar of petroleum jelly and mix it up. All three are good for growing/thicken hair. Don't use them together though. I would try the castor oil first, and if that doesn't work than try the Doo Gro, and if that doesn't try the Dr. Miracle's
I read that the Essential Oil Rosemary will grow back hair, make sure you dilute it with water as it can be dangerous to use this oil straight and undiluted. In about 3 months or less, you should have your hairline back and continued use could possible give you 1 inch more per month in other areas of your hair.

    Scalp and Hair Stimulation Oil

    One Teaspoon Sweet Almond Oil

    One Teaspoon Castor Oil

10 Drops Essential Oil of Fir Needle (Abies spp)

OR Essential Oil of Rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis)

Mix the Sweet Almond Oil together with the Castor Oil in a small bowl and then add no more than 10 drops of Essential Oil. Mix with your fingers and then rub vigorously into your scalp, concentrating on areas where hair is thinning.

  • HOw do you get perfect Cringed hair with braiding hair at night and not toching the iron?

I think ';crimped'; is the word you were looking for. Anyway, put braids in your hair while it's wet. Try to keep the braids at the same thickness, otherwise you're going to get some bigger, more wavy looking crimps and some smaller, tighter crimps; that could end up looking weird! Allow the braids to fully dry and take them out. To keep the crimps, spritz some hair spray all over and let it dry. Don't expect the crimps to come out perfectly on your first try--stuff like this take practice!HOw do you get perfect Cringed hair with braiding hair at night and not toching the iron?

It depends on the kind of hair you have. Some of them are synthetic hair, and you can't play around with them with heat implements. If you were to ';melt'; them straight, you may not be able to get it back to the kinky hair. Check that carefully.

Does braiding your hair before you sleep increase hair growth?

    Idunno.

I was just reading about hair growth. And i was just wondering if this was true.

    It's near the bottom.

Thanks! (:Does braiding your hair before you sleep increase hair growth?
i believe there is some truth to that statement. clearly logical. when you braid your hair its simply pulling your hair and when you braid it it is pulled and tightened. which can increase the speed of hairgrowth, but i wouldnt say too much. prolly would make a little difference [: why do you think bangs grow the quickest? cause we are always pulling on them and straightening them or pulling them back and all that stuff. [:Does braiding your hair before you sleep increase hair growth?
its not proven to. After sleeping on the braid for a while anyway it will start to fall out and wont be pulling your hair anymore.

what does make your hair grow faster in regular trims to keep the split ends off as your hair grows slower when you have split ends, and the right diet.
No, it only protects it so it can grow. No effect on speed of growth.

There ought to be a zillion of them in a city like St. Louis. It's BIG! Around here, people braid in their houses...which is totally illegal, but you may know friends who can do a great job on your hair! Good Luck!

Braiding hair to get loose waves?

How can i get really LOOSE and big waves? i tried to braid my hair when it's wet and going to sleep in them but in the morning it was kinda to dramatic. I want just simple, loose, big, waves for school. I have my doubts for wahsing my hair at night. so would it be better to wash my hair in the morning, braid it, and just blow dry it or.....

    So please help %26gt;.%26lt;

thanksss so muchBraiding hair to get loose waves?
I would say braid all of your hair and leave it like that for 3 hrs, that'll do the trick.

But the best option is ';make a appointment with the hairdresser and get a head of big beautiful curls';.Braiding hair to get loose waves?
    Something like these.

    http://www.seventeen.com/hair-skin-makeu鈥?/a>

Also, when you wash your hair, get a spray bottle with a little salt in it and spritz it on there. That is a way to get beachy waves since the ocean has salt in it this is like mocking it. It will stay like that for the whole day.
use a big curling iron and curl up under...its hot...
Try pin-curls. Dry you hair almost completely before you go to bed and pin-curl it. Don't make small pin-curls or you will have a mess. Try it on the weekend so if you need to try a couple of times to get it right you will be ok. Or on a Friday nite do half your head one size and the other half another. So that way its trial and error. It really works.
There's many YouTube videos on this topic. You should check it out !

Does braiding hair make it more relaxed?

so im mixed black and filipino and my hair is really curly and somewhat poofy but a curly poofy i want my hair to be juss curly and down like how samoans have it or mexicans have it put mouse and hair strap but it doesnt work so should i keep braiding it to make it longer? and less poofy?Does braiding hair make it more relaxed?
    Go to a professional.

Your hair sound beautiful the way it is so I would just keep it the same.Does braiding hair make it more relaxed?
You can braid it, it will make it less poofy and longer (but not grow longer just because of that), do it after you take a shower, it's easiest when it's still wet, and use gel or hair spray too.
yup braid it up at night and in the morning put a little jell in it while its still breaded go take your shower and then take out the breads when your down and it works....well works for me.
Yes. As far as i know brading helps! =]] You could perm it like tht person sed

umm maybe braiding can work but you can just have your hair perm curled
Just don't strip or damage it with chemicals. Treat it like antique lace. Hair can't repair its self.

I will advise you to contact Mr ALex who helped me with loan a week ago here is the email clarkloanventures@live.comWhat do i need to open a braiding hair salon in maryland? please help?
If you are looking for work at home that earn you long term income, You must have look this method. It will create very good income for you every months. You can get more info from bit,ly/isdhgiew4 (Please edit , to . in the link)
I would advise you to start small. Talk to friends and family and see if they can be your initial clients. Maybe you can braid and not take on additional staff till you can afford them.

I have a 3 year old daughter in NJ who gets her hair braided every 2-3 weeks. Maybe you could also focus on the younger kids and grow your clientele from there. All the while, making sure to work from home initially. This will keep your expenses down. No rent charges!

When your clientele increases you can hire space and additional staff. Feel free to advertise online, in the dailies and at universities (college kids love to braid too) for clients.

    Good Luck!

Does your real hair have to be short in order to use curly weave for braiding?

My hair is shoulder length. Is it too long if I want the weave to hang loose, and the actual braid to be really short?Does your real hair have to be short in order to use curly weave for braiding?
no. just put a rubber band on the end where the weave stops

Is there a way to apply tracks to hair with no glue or braiding?

i know how to do the glue and the braiding...but someone said that there was another method...does anyone know how to do this??or what its called....?Thanks!!!Is there a way to apply tracks to hair with no glue or braiding?
You just get clip in extensions. You can buy them on already or you sew the extension hair to the clip. They're really easy to put in and you can pull them out whenever you want.

    2 french braids sounds good.

= )If I want to wear a beret and 2 braids (mid-back length hair)which way is best to fashion/start braiding ??
I would probably start the braids around the ears because if you do french braids the top is just going to get messed up anyways.

Does anyone know how to knot in braiding hair?

to begin the braid you take the front part of the hair starting at the centre of the forehead...split it into 3 even parts....treat it like a plait..plait these three parts together..then..as you plait the three..you take a small piece of hair from along the hairline and plait it into the middle..that will form the braid. As you go along, the hardest bit is when you get to the nape of the neck..you need to use a comb or use your pinkie finger to scoop the hair whilst keeping the centre plait tight.

To knott the end, you will have a normal three piece plait/tail. just tie off with an elastic band..or..you can fold it underneath and pin it under..like a bun.

If it is Afro braids you are pertaining to, then you get them clear small elastic bands, the ones that do not knott you hair up..you turn the end of the hair up, if desired, and put the elstic on that way.

Oh I see your add there....hair extensions are usualy applied prior to the braiding..they use a special glue that is designed to mould the new extensions to the hair....they kind of heat set it onto the hair. Then, they are able to continue the braid once they get to the extensions.

yes i have some tips on hair for you
The Only thing you do is tie a small not so tight but so lose you know%26gt;?
I will assume you are talking about hair braiding with extensions!

when you get to the tip of the hair where you will like to end the plait take a small strand of the hair and form it as a circle round the plait and knot do this twice to avoid un knotting again.hopefully i have been able to answer your questions. If you have any more more qustions. You may reach me at...

    cheers
Add me to yahoo messenger and I can give you a tutorial on this it would be better for you. I answered your other question like this!

It is easy once you know how!

YOU DO NOT TIE AN ACTUAL KNOT IN THE HAIR ONLY WRAP IT!
in what sort of braiding ?
take a peice of the head hair approx 1/2 inch block.

now take 3 times the head length of braiding hair.#

from the root tie the braiding hair in a single shoe lace knot.

allow all of the hair to fall together keeping the knot at the root.

separate the braiding hair and the human hair into 3 parts to start braiding.

braid down the hair keeping the knot and the braid as tight as you can.

as you reach the end of the human hair keep the braid tight and this should hold ina ny loose bits!

    good luck

    Try Google.

I know braiding your hair when you go to sleep makes it grow faster, but what if your hair is short..?

My hair is about to my shoulders but it has A TON of layers.

So the i can only braid like 2 inches then the rest is like a pony tail..

will this still help my hair grow?

also, i'm using hair rubber bands, i was wondering if that slows it down somehow, and i there's some other hair for little braids and such that don't damage hair?I know braiding your hair when you go to sleep makes it grow faster, but what if your hair is short..?
Braiding your hair doesn't actually promote growth speed, what it does is that it helps retain the ends while your hair grows at it's natural pace, especially for those with the kinky hair. What I mean by retaining ends is that for some types of hair, the dry ones get this the most, is that when you brush or comb it, it's like a mini-haircut every time as ends will break off.

Just try to keep your hair healthy and hydrated with some good shampoo and deep conditioner.I know braiding your hair when you go to sleep makes it grow faster, but what if your hair is short..?
try a grench braid.. and if you don't know how to do that you may want to look into that

What kind do you reccomend? how many packs? What kind of hair is good for Tree Braiding?
Always use human hair. I use wet-n-wavy, it looks better than straight hair (straight hair doesn't blend right at the hairline). I use 5 packs because I have a big head and like thick hair. Check out some of the hair below.

  • How do i get poofy hair to be wavy if ive tried french braiding and it falls out when i sleep?

So i asked a question about my hair earlier and everyone said to french braid it before i go to bed when its wet but i tried that a while ago and my hair goes down almost to my shoulder so it fell out. plus im not good at french braiding. any advice on how to get the results i want? How do i get poofy hair to be wavy if ive tried french braiding and it falls out when i sleep?
You don't have to french braid your hair, just do a normal braid. french braids take up a lot of hair and you won't have enough when you come down to your shoulder and rubberband it. try putting a low pony tail and then do a braid. How do i get poofy hair to be wavy if ive tried french braiding and it falls out when i sleep?
Put a bunch of pony tails in your hair. Put your bangs into one (if you want them wavy or you have them) then do the layer of hair behind that, then behind that and keep going till you have pony tails down to your shoulders (i do this and i have short hair too :D)

also, you could try moose, you can get it at a salon or target, places like that. When your hair is wet, you put in there and scrunge up your hair and it makes it REALLY wavy but thest kina hard cuz moose is like hair spray ... lol :D there are better instructions on the bottle and online

    GOOD LUCK :D
Have someone braid it for you then, and make sure you put the tie on at the end very tight.

Otherwise you may just want to get a de-frizzer shampoo or serum (probably from John Frida) or a hair dryer with a defuser.

If you're worried about frizz, I hope you're not brushing it after you wash it, unless you're using a mouse.
You could try the age old sock trick. Just wash your hair and while it is still wet, wrap the sock or just a strip of material around a lock of hair, and keep it there. In the morning when you wake up, Voila! I hope this helps.
hey join the club my hair is a poofy mess as well! So at night what i do is shampoo my hair and then take little sections and twist them until there a tiny little ball. then i take a rubber band and a clip and somehow it stays in place! i noe it
in the morning french braid it, then shower with the braids in, the blow dry, then take the braids out.

    hope it helps!

    :)
you can buy and crimpper and crimp your hair every morning. Also you could just normaly braid it.
Hmmm...try scrunching it with some mousse when it's damp and then when you wake up in the morning brush it out.

That should work, it works for me.
Take a shower then straight away but your hair into a bun on the top of your head, sleep with your hair like that. then in the morning put gell, hair spray or whatever else calms your hair.
    How bout Crimping it
apply mousse to damp hair. then scrunch while blow drying.
    Yes. Get your hair permed.

It has pics and everything. The method is okay, but I prefer to use two strands of the synthetic hair. You basically overlap two strands and follow the same directions, that way you already have three strands and you just grip the real hair and turn under like you're braiding.

    Here's a video for purchase:

Letting your hair breath is always a good thing. It helps to stimulate the scalp and allow you to let your natural oils get air so to speak. Get a conditioning scalp and oil treatment. This will put some of the moisture back in your hair while it's breathing

buy some hair mousse and flip ur head upside down (while it's damp, not too wet) rub the mousse on ur hands and start scrunching ur hair, afterwords add some hairspray to keep the curls tight, it looks awesome when finished :]How can you make your hair crimpy without a crimper or french braiding?
Large braids in the hair will give you a wavy look.

On the other hand, if you put like 5 small braids in each side of your hair while it's damp, then you can create a ';crimpy'; look.

Remember not to braid too small or else the hair looks frizzy.

You can regular braid not french braid :]

Besides an iron or braiding there is no other way but I just wanted to show you these tips. It's not a huge hassle I hope...
you can use a curling iron to make more jagged-type curls. they're really cute. you can use the method of curling where you put the curling iron at the base of the scalp and wrap the hair around it that way. use a smaller iron.
soup soup a tasty soup a spicy carrot and coriander, chili chowder, crouton crouton, crunchy friends in a liquid broth, i am gazpachio oh i am a summer soup oh, miso miso fighting in the dojo, miso miso oriental prince in the land of soup
Get some mouse and take small sections of your hair and bunch it up while squeezing. It takes practice but it looks great either way.
i dont know any other way. i supose if you wanted it like that permanetly you could get a perm.
wet it and individually braid it
Crimping looks bad anyways, so why would you want it?

Hair braiding on white person's hair question?

I had my hair braided before, but it started coming off after only about 2 weeks and after i took the braids out my hair was very very weak, i was wondering if that's normal? Because none of my black friends ever complain about theirs, so i was wondering if it depeneds on the structure of your hair? I want to get it braided again, because i think it looks awesome, but i'm scared that i'll go bald or something if i do that to my hair again! Is there anything i can do to make my hair stronger before and during when it's braided?Hair braiding on white person's hair question?
HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN GETTIN YOUR HAIR BRAIDED?EVERYONES HAIR IS DIFFERENTAND TO KEEP A STYLE YOU HAVE TO MODE YOR HAIR MEANING YOU HAVE TO TRAIN IT.ON THE OTHER HAND YOUR HAIR IS VERY SOFT AND WHEN YOU GET YOUR HAIR BRAIDED YOUR HAIR WILL REACT DIFFERENTLY AND I T ALSO DEPEND ON HOW YOU ALSO GOT IT BRAIDED.YOU MIGHT WANT TO GET SMALLER BRAIDS IT LAST LONGER,KEEP YOUR ENDS CLIPED AND KEEP A GOOD SHAMPOO AND CONDITIONER AND A DEEP PENETRATING MOISTURIZER AND NO A LOT OF OIL YOU SHOULD BE GOOD TO GO ,EVEN WITH YOUR BRAIDS,ALWAYZ KEEP YOUR BRAIDS CLEAN AND NICELY OILED AND KEEP IT TIED UP AT NIGHT.YOUR HAIR IS GOING TO SHED EVERYDAY EVERY SECOND AND REALLY WHEN YOU COMB IT.ALL WE CAN DO IS OUR PART,KEEPING IT-UP.Hair braiding on white person's hair question?
i wouldn't recommend it as beautiful as it may look because a white person's hair is very thin and brittle, braiding it strains it so much that it really isn't good for your hair.
I had my hair done also. It was a wreck after. I think it does have something to do with the structure of the hair.
I had my hair braided before and my braids only lasted about 2 weeks as well. Although my hair wasn't weak after braiding it. Braiding actually keeps your hair from breaking, essentially making it stronger. Which is why many Black people choose to braid their hair.

I think that as white people our hairs texture doesn't grasp the hair well enough for the braids to stay in much longer than two weeks, especially if you are using artificial hair.
your hair maybe in bad shape. do you color or perm it? is it dry. if your hair is damaged or dry and you braided it tight it will put stress on the hair plus weaken the elasticity of the hair .i would use a really good cond. and when you get your hair done leave the cond. in it will help strengthen the hair
Coming from a black person that braids all textures of hair Black or White people i will tell you this. Most girls with your hair texture seem to notice that but its not a kind of baldness its basacally your hair getting use to it. If you really keep the braids cosistently then sooner or later your hair will get use to it and you won't get no feeling of it being week. Have fun and get you hair done in the braids you really wanted

    2.dry it with a towel

You can try using a curling iron to make waves. You can also blow dry your hair with the diffuser attachment thing- you pile your hair onto it and lift it upwards. You can also do this with your hair flipped upside down leaning over. Hairspray when you're done with either one, although they work better if you do them in the morning.
curl it with a really wide curling iron, like 1.5 inch.

dont run your fingers through it and let it be pretty curly, more curly than you want it

spray a little bit of hairspray to hold it

    and then sleep.

when you wake up, run your fingers through it and just touch it up a little with the curler if you need to, i usually dont.
Well , Im pretty sure you have pin straight hair , right ? You could perm it if you want . Or you could use curling irons and crimpers too , and spritz with hairspray . That way it would stay longer : ) Good luck !

Does braiding your hair make it grow faster?

I heard it does, but idk, I have hair that is CONSIDERED long, but it is only like 2 inches below my shoulders IF THAT!! So.. yeah, I want to get it really long, like probably like 7 inches above my waist.. so yeah, idk, but does it? and if it doesn't, is there any way to make your hair grow faster. and BE NICE lolDoes braiding your hair make it grow faster?
Nothing makes hair grow faster. No pill, serum, oil, massage, voodoo....nothing. Those who claim to have a product that makes hair grow faster are laughing all the way to the bank. And braiding it certainly does not make it grow faster.

Time and getting your ends trimmed every 6 to 8 weeks is the only way to get long hair. If you don't keep your ends trimmed, your hair will split up the hair shaft and break off.

Average hair growth in a healthy person is one-quarter to one-half inch per month. Use good shampoos, conditioners, and styling products. I use and recommend Framesi Options products. They are the only ones I use for my hair and in my salon and the only ones I recommend because they are the best I have found and I've been in this business for more than 15 years.Does braiding your hair make it grow faster?
yes it does help make your hair grow .and also to keep your hair from being itchy then use this spray that i use all the time it works really good it is called T-Tree Braid spray. Oh yeah and use erball esscences beutiful lengths try it it really works .

I heard it does, Try it and find out, Braid it everyday see what happens
    no not at alll
Braiding your hair can actually make it grow, the reason why this works is because you are not putting lots of products in your hair, not putting lots of heat from a curling iron or a flat iron witch causes breakage and damage too.. Conditioning treatments will also help it grow...
braiding can cause breakage also to much tension on the scalp leads to lose of blood flow to the hair follicle very similiar to wrapping a thread around your finger to tight this leads to the follicle dying and hair lose another misconception is that cutting the hair makes it grow faster this is also not true trimming the hair rids it of the deads ends meaning less breakage hence giving the apperance that it seems to be growing faster.. if you want to help with the speed of hair growth nothing will make miracles happen but you can buy good products to maintain scalp health and that will assits and you can buy prenatal vitamins over the counter now those to will help no an immense amount but you should see a difference also good for the nails and digestive tract hope this helps
Braiding your hair makes if grow faster for African Americans but I don't think it does for Caucasians. Try vitamins and switching your shampoo and conditioner because using the same products on your hair trains it to that particular product I heard switching hair care products makes it grow and healthier because it's not relying on the exact same product each time you care for your hair it is becoming strong on it's own.
No, nothing can make your hair grow faster-there are things that can help grow your hair to its maximun potential each month (which is about 1/2 an inch a month) and that would be things like scalp stimulation, vitamins, keeping your hair trimmed, so the ends don't split and break off, and a good scalp stimulating shampoo and conditioner such as ';nioxin'; (sold at most Regis owned salons). Good luck!
Yes, because combing your hair constantly, causes more breakage. With the braids, your hair gets a break from the comb.
no, braiding ur hair doesnt make it grow faster.

    sorry.

hair will grow, on average, a 1/2 inch per month.

but if you want it to grow a lil faster,

you can eat lots of fruits and veggies

and you can purchase vitamins that will help.
Braiding your hair keeps you from putting the constant stress of heat and combing and chemicals on your hair. But braiding can also pull your hair out around the edges, and you know that you've seen people with permanent scalp damage from braids.

If you want to occasionally take a break from relaxers and heat styling, I would suggest getting big cornrows for a few weeks when you are due for a touch-up - this will help extend the time between relaxers and keep your hair from getting over-processed.

Otherwise, I would really suggest just conditioning, moisturizing, and wearing your hair up and leaving it alone. Take vitamins, drink lots of water, and don't mess with your hair (no heat).

Go here to see examples of lots of women growing their hair out: http://www.longhaircareforum.com/forums/
YEAH I MAKE YOUR HAAIR GROW AS LONG AS U KEEP UR HAIR RIGHT..TIE IT UP EVERY NITE AND KEEP IT GREASED AND STUFF
    nope
braiding does not make your hair grow faster, it just makes it all notty and not very nice, it can also make your hair fall out if it is too tight and it is also extremely painful

so if u wanna make your hair longer you should have it thinned as the thinner your hair the quicker it will grow

    hope it helps
No braids cause hair breakage and that leads to losing hair length.
lol whats up with all the people and long hair growing, i really dont think that will help , buy some hair product it might help a little

How would my kinki twist look if i used regular braiding hair?

not good. the hair used for kinky twist is made so that the twists will kink up and hold in place. the hair used for braiding is not made for that person and will just unravel and not look good at all. It will only look like really loose twisted braids.

Does braiding wet hair help with poofiness?

I have extremely poofy hair and if i let it air dry after each shower it gets really poofy.

I was wondering if braiding wet hair help with the poofiness, and what kind of shampoo or conditioner will help with it too, I heard that John Frieda is a good shampoo brand but which line? the straight, or curly? line? Thanks for your helpDoes braiding wet hair help with poofiness?
NEVER braid your hair while wet. Hair swells with water so it shrinks as it dries, putting stress of the hair and causing it to break, along with damaging the follicles if you do this long term. John Frieda is drugstore crap, and it is just going to make your hair poofy, like all drugstore crap. They chemicals are really harsh, which causes that poof. Shampoo cleans hair, that is all that it can do, so everything that it tells you it does besides cleaning is a marketing scam, don't fall for it. Use a shampoo like Fashonista by Catwalk. It is for color so it is very gentle, then use a Matrix conditioner, wash it out in cold water. You can also use a smoothing cream to help cut down on the poofieness, as some is caused by the product but some is natural.Does braiding wet hair help with poofiness?
Braiding wet hair then letting it air dry will help some, but then you'll end up with braid indentations in your hair. If that doesn't bother you then go for it. And John Freida shampoo/conditioners are all really good, but that alone won't tame your poofiness. You should use some frizz taming serum (JF has a really good one) and so does Garnier. My hair gets frizzy if it air dries, so I do this: when my hair is towel-dried, I apply some hair serum OR spritz it with Garnier glossing spray, comb it through, and let it air dry. Just don't add too much or your hair will be greasy.

Where do i go to get my hair braiding license in chicago?

You don't. I think a friend of yours just played a mean prank on you LOL!

  • Do you think braiding your own hair without using the hair extensions will be less damaging?

    Well...

Getting the extra hair will add more weight and stress on the roots of your hair. The tight braids already do that enough, and more hair would make it heavier, so it would pull more.

Getting braids grows your hair out faster, but with the extra stress, it becomes more damaged.

So I'd get the braids without the extra hair.

Also, unless you're getting micros, adding hair to braids looks tacky.Do you think braiding your own hair without using the hair extensions will be less damaging?
well, either way, you are pulling the hair tight so its probably the same amount of damage.

if you get micros, you are pulling the hair, making it weak.

if you braid your own hair, you are pulling the hair making it weak.

the way that extensions damage your real hair is when you have them glued in or even sometimes the sew in kind can cause damage too. it has nothing to do with braids.Do you think braiding your own hair without using the hair extensions will be less damaging?
    definitley!! do whatever feels comfortable!!

Does braiding in hair extensions cause your hair to fall out?

I have clip in extensions and I noticed when I left them in for several days straight (including in the shower) and then took them out I had a tremendous amountof hair fall out but no noticeable thining. I want to get hair extensions braided in, will this cause my hair to break and fall out like it does when the clip in extensions are constantly in or will it be ok because its a different method?Does braiding in hair extensions cause your hair to fall out?
i get my hair braided in box braids for 2-3 months at a time and actually i helps my hair to grow. I had gotten my hair burned bad from a relaxer and i got my hair braided every 2-3 months for a year and my hair grew about 3.5 inches in the area that was burned and else wear. Needless to say my shoulder length hair now down to my collarbone area. When you take the braids out you may see some hair coming out, but that's only dead hair, nothing more.Does braiding in hair extensions cause your hair to fall out?
Well braiding in extensions is better than gluing them in or clipping them in. You do need to make sure to take them out after about six weeks though, or less time if necessary.
well it will pull at ur hair and eventually rip it out from the scalp

so be careful extensions arent good for your hair

Would braiding my hair in cornrows be culturally acceptable?

    Yes, in the ghetto.

BTW ';Made in Spain';, I'll bet she IS!Would braiding my hair in cornrows be culturally acceptable?
That's cool and all but if you are not black or mixed it's gonna be a lot of work for a little time. Non blacks have to wash their hair a lot more because of genetics. That's why certain hairstyles work better on black folks than they do white folks.Would braiding my hair in cornrows be culturally acceptable?
you should just to half conrows. like the the top of your head. I used to get that done to my hair all the time when i was younger, to keep my bangs out of the way in the summer.
    ....ew

    Don't ruin your hair!

The uh.. ';coloured' people only do it probably because their hair is OUT OF CONTROL! *cringes*
Yes. Cornrows are fine for all people. And thats right Sydney you better watch it cause I'm still up and ready to report.
No. You are fabulous just the way you are. Leave the cornrows for...well...I dont want to get reported.
No it's only culturally acceptable for blacks. Sorry.
if you wanna do it, do it. thats the beauty of freedom of expression.
    cornrows look ghetto
Na keep it desi, looks better.
I bet your not hotter than my babe Jennifer O.
I don't see why not? Unless you have a misshaped head...

How can you make your hair wavy w/o curling, braiding, or using a crimper?

wash your hair, and just wear it wet or damp to bed and in the morning it will look beachy-wavy, or just invest in some mousse (i recommend pantene pro-v curl defining mousse) and just scrunch it in after you wash your hair, then let air dryHow can you make your hair wavy w/o curling, braiding, or using a crimper?
After showering, put it in a high ponytail. Then coil your hair around the ponytail and secure it with a scrunchie. How can you make your hair wavy w/o curling, braiding, or using a crimper?
scrunch it when its wet, or use a straightener and twist it as you go down.
when you're hair is damp, put it up in a tight bun. Wait a couple of hours and let it down. if you have hair gel or scrunching cream/gel try to scrunch it a little.

you could even make several smaller buns around you're head, unless you're going out in public-- it could look a little strange.
wel,,,,,wasH it BeFOr Going To Bed jus ToWEl DrY iT

ThEnn Pull IT bAck ;ike your gonna put it in a ponytail but twirl it into abun and put it up with a hairband(rubberband) than go to bed like that when you wake up in the morning itll be wavy
I towel dry my hair and then when it is almost dry I put it in a bun. When I take it down I scrunch it a bit and then tada!

  • How do i get knots out of my hair after braiding it?

well, i braided my hair and im ready to take it out but wen i do there is like little knots at the root of my hair and i want to find a eaier way to take it out instead of coming it out because i notice im breaking my hair while doing it. do u have any ideas for me?How do i get knots out of my hair after braiding it?
leave-in conditionerHow do i get knots out of my hair after braiding it?
take a shower and use detangular conditionar
If you can't access conditioner try peanut butter. Hear me out! Peanut Butter works great on removing gum from hair. The oil in the PB helps by creating a slick surface. Just a little dag on the tangles. make sure you wash it out afterwords. Don't want to be walking around smelling like a day care.
    buy some quality hair detangler
Put a conditioner in it, then rinse it out in cold water... a little.. then put some olive oil on your hair, then take it out
    You should try leave-in conditioner!!

You see when someone is doing cornrows in your hair does it hurt when they are braiding your hair in cornrows?

I got black afro hair that is atleast 2inchs(5cms) i was just wounding when someone cornrows your does it hurt a lot or notYou see when someone is doing cornrows in your hair does it hurt when they are braiding your hair in cornrows?
It hurt because the braider it grasping the hair while braiding. Sometimes when they are through the braids are really tight. . Just take a few aspirins prior in getting your hair braided. The braids loosen up but it is not a painful process. You see when someone is doing cornrows in your hair does it hurt when they are braiding your hair in cornrows?
yes it hurts alot! my sister does mine sometimes and it hurts when she does it. but I can take the pain now because shes been doing them for so long
It depends if you are tender-headed. Normally when people have their hair corn rowed, your scalp may feel a lil tight but it will loosen up over a few days. Now if you are tender-headed, then it will hurt. Have someone braid one corn row in your head, if it hurts them you will know.
HAIL YAHH IT HURTS ok think of a kid pulling ur hair while you have a headache!

I'm African American, with shoulder length hair. How do I get my hair to grow longer without braiding it?Help!

I don't have the money to braid my hair, and I was wondering if there was any other way to grow my hair longer than what it is now?I'm African American, with shoulder length hair. How do I get my hair to grow longer without braiding it?Help!
The last time I let my hair grow out long, I just left it alone and let it grow. The best way to grow out black hair is to wash it, condition it, moisturize it, and wear it up. And avoid heat styling.

I straightened it myself using Motions mild-strength relaxer.

I washed my hair at least twice a week using a conditioning shampoo (try Motions, Keracare, or Aphogee).

I conditioned my hair. ALOT. I used a moisturizing conditioner every time I shampooed. I used a protein deep condioner to prevent breakage every other week.

I did NOT use any heat. AT ALL. I would use lots of leave-in conditioner to comb the tangles out. Then I would oil and moisturize my hair and pull my hair back into one tight braid and bundle it up with a small scrunchy. Then I would tie my hair up with a silk head wrap or with old pantyhose and just sleep on it. In the morning I would brush my edges smooth and wrap a few more scrunchies around my bun in the back to make sure that my ends were tucked under.

Also take a good vitamin. I recommend GNC hair skin %26amp; nail vitamins twice a day. And drink lots of water.I'm African American, with shoulder length hair. How do I get my hair to grow longer without braiding it?Help!
Try using Olive Oil hair spray on your scalp every night or every other night. If you like hair grease try using B%26amp;B supergro or TeaTree Gro. Where I'm from you can buy it from Sally's or Wal-mart. Wrap your hair at night. Make sure to condition every week. Clarify your hair at least once a month. Massage it at night. Most importantly handle your hair like delicate flower. It's a lot of work, but I promise your hair will take off like mine!

    Trims also help too.
get ur friends to braid it tight everynight and always wash it good and brush it just whenever u dont need to brush it just when u wake up and go to bed whenever ur board just go brush ur hair..It will move alot of the dead hair and produce ne hair soooo.......get ur mom or someone to braid it for u.........
Just take care of your hair! Our hair is very different from most. Make sure you wrap your head with a a slik scarf every night before bed. Not doing this will cause your hair to break off constantly. You also need to get your conditioned at least 2-3 times a moth. This is what I do for my hair and I grows like weeds. Everyone tells me m hair looks likea wig!
Try longhaircareforum.com. Don't let the name worry you it,it will at least help you get on the right path in taking care/growing your hair. Also diet and eating the right foods are important, treat your ends. Maybe a friend can braid it for you..
Take care of your hair, protect from heat styling, get regular trims, use keratin hair products, take biotin vitamins.
