Quick hair braiding question?

I have really long hair (almost butt-length) and I wanted just for fun make sporadic, thin, loose braids. I want to try and not use small elastics to make it look cool and kinda free, and wanted to know what I should do to try and achieve this? dark thread? Gel at the very end of the braid?

you can get those really thin elastic bands.. they come in all hair shades so they mix in realy well... they're snag free as well





they're really thin and look flimsy but they're not


your choice but thats what i use because they mix in and dont stand out...
