African american culure question? hair braiding?

Hair braiding in Africa has a multi-leveled function within each culture apart from the beauty and sophistication of the designs. What are some of the ways in which social and cultural meaning are expressed through braiding designs? Does the use of hair braiding designs by people of African heritage in the Americas also indicate a measure of cultural awareness and possible connection between the two cultural worlds?African american culure question? hair braiding?
Braiding is a social/cultural tradition Grandmother did mom's hair who did her sister's hair who did we children. All the while swapping the news and gossip of the day. Many of our social life could me traced to the hairdressers and to the church and to Grandmother's kitchen.African american culure question? hair braiding?

For me wearing locs has both cultural, spiritual and personal connections.
