Yeah it doesn't work for me either. Even if I french braid. It just comes out all kinky. Although i found a tool by hot tools that waves my hair and looks cool!

This is what it looks like. Its almost like a flat iron but it waves your hair instead. Its more like a crimper.

good luckBraiding hair to make it wavy doesnt work. am i doing it wrong or does it just not work ?
i have a similar problem.

what i do is try to shower earlier nad get the maximum amount of time my hair can stay in the braid. so maybe i'll shower at like 7ish and have my hair braided and wake up around 7 the next morning for school so its lamost like 12 hours in the braid.

but i usually let me hair air dry a little because if its too wet then your hair willt akeFOREVER to tdry in the braids. let it air dry till its damp, and then take soem ahir gel or mouse and runi t through your hair, then as tightly as possibly, braid it.

(if need be, take a blow dryer to your hair and run over it for a couple of minutes)

then before you go to sleep spritz some liquid gel or hairspray directly onto the braids. the enxt morning, spray some last minute hairspy on, do the same thing with the blowdryer again to amke sure everythign its definitely dry, then take it out.

to retain the waves, get a wave/curl specific gel/mouse for your hair.

or, if you dont mind spending the money, you can always get an S-wave curling iron, which gives the effect of waves , but that is a lot more ffor than braiding your hair.

best of luck!
Use some styling product, like wave spray, or mousse in your damp hair. Also braid it into several braids, like 10 or so and when you get up in the morning blow dry it until it is totally dry, then use the hairdryer's cold blast for a couple of minutes til it's cold again. Then take the braids out and run your fingers through them but don't brush your hair.
well is your hair really straight usually?

cuz thats how mine is and i have the same problem you could do the tightest braids and yet it still wont stay wavey.

your prolly doing it right its just your hair
